One The Incredible.

Ni mmoja wa wasanii wa Hip Hop ambao wanaangaliwa kwa jicho la tatu. Nimepata nafasi ya kusikiliza nyimbo zake zote, ambazo bila shaka zinawapa matumaini mashabiki wa Hip Hop Tanzania na Afrika Mashariki kwa ujumla kuwa gemu inaanza kuimarika.

Sasa hivi kuna fukuto na msisimuko wa Hip Hop mitaani, na One ni mmoja ya ‘madogo’ ambao wamelianzisha. Nina uhakika ameshajipatia Stans wa kutosha mpaka sasa hivi ingawa anadai kuwa safari yake bado ni ndefu.

Wakati mixtape ya Music Lab The Element — iliyosukwa na Duke Tachez akishirikiana na One, Stereo na Nikki Mbishi — ikiendelea kugombaniwa mitaani, tumeona ni vema kumtafuta One na kufanya mahojiano mafupi.*

1.Tunafahamu kuwa uko mwaka wa kwanza sasa hivi Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam. Kwanini umeamua kuingia kwenye Hip Hop? Kuna mtu aliyekusukuma au kukwambia kuwa una kipaji cha kuandika mashairi na kughani?

Kwa kweli sio kwamba naingia kwenye Hip Hop, mimi nipo kwenye hii ‘game’ kwa muda mrefu tu.  Nilianza kujihusisha na muziki huu wa ‘kuchana’ (kughani) tangu nikiwa nina miaka sita. Enzi hizo ma-MC — kama kina SOS B — walikuwa wanakuja nyumbani kwetu kwa ajili ya rehearsals (mazoezi). Kwasababu kipindi hicho kaka zangu nao walikuwa kwenye zile harakati za muziki wa Hip Hop; pamoja na kina Zavara na wasanii wengine kwenye miaka ya 1994, 95, 96 na kuendelea…

Tokea enzi hizo mi’ ndio nilipoanza safari yangu ya Hip Hop.  Na nikajikuta kila siku kiwango kinaongezeka siku baada ya siku! Pia watu kama Prof. Jay, Fid Q na Hashim “Dogo” wamenishawishi (influence) kwa kiasi kikubwa.

2. Wewe na wenzako mnachukuliwa kama “kizazi kipya” cha Hip Hop Tanzania? Nini matarajio na malengo yenu kwenye Hip Hop kama damu changa kwenye game?

Ninashukuru kufahamu kwamba na mimi ni mmoja kati ya MC’s wanaochukuliwa kuwa na uwezo, ingawa ndoto yangu haikuwahi kuwa hivyo. Mi’ napenda Rap Music, lakini siwezi kuongelea mipango yangu sasa hivi  kwasababu bado (ni) mapema sana.

Kwa upande mwingine najaribu kutilia mkazo shule zaidi. Muziki ni kitu ambacho nimekua nacho, na kwa mtazamo wangu nadhani kipaji changu kimekuwa kikiongezeka kutokana na ukuaji wangu wa upeo na maarifa. Kwa hiyo, kama nikiendelea kuhakikisha nipo sambamba na ujuzi na maarifa, basi nitaendelea kuwa sambamba na Hip Hop!

Ni matumaini yetu ipo siku tutaweza kuipeleka ‘game’ nje ya mipaka (ya Tanzania)!

3. Mtazamo wako kwenye fani hii ukoje? Ni tofauti gani kati yenu nyie wa “kizazi kipya” kwenye na kile cha zamani?

Binafsi ninataka kufanya ‘game’ na kuipeleka nje ya mipaka ya Tanzania (international scale).  Mpaka sasa hivi ninatengeneza album na mixtapes zaidi, kwasababu tunataka kuufikisha muziki wetu mbali kadri tunavyoweza!

Ukuaji wa teknolojia nao utatusaidia; vitu kama blogs havikuwepo zamani , ila sasa hivi vinatusaidia kufikisha kazi zetu mbali zaidi ukilinganisha na kipindi kile. Hivyo tunajaribu kutumia zana hizi kujitangaza…

4. Nimesikiliza mashairi yako, na kusema ukweli una “flow” kali. Mashairi yamesimama; ingawa sio rahisi kuyaelewa haraka-haraka. Sasa, uandishi wako wa mashairi wa namna hii ni kitu ambacho hutokea tu au unafanya makusudi? Nini hukupelekea wewe kuandika unachoandika na kuwasilisha jinsi unavyowasilisha kazi yako.

Hip Hop ni utamaduni, na uwasilishwaji wake, ambao ni kupitia rap, ni sanaa.

Lakini wakati huo huo ni maoni au mtazamo binafsi (wa fanani) kuhusu mambo yanayomzunguka.  Hivyo mimi ninawasilisha kile ambacho ninachokiona kila siku kwenye jamii kadri ya upeo wa maarifa na ujuzi wangu.

Kawaida uwasilishaji wa aina yoyote unatokana na wasifu/tabia ya mtu anayewasilisha, au uelewa wake juu ya kile anachokijua. Kwa kifupi, utunzi wangu unatokana na vile ninavyoelewa ninayoyasema, na vile vile (jinsi) ninavyotaka nieleweke!

5. Ulitoka na ‘One The Incredible’, ambayo imepokelewa vizuri sana. Kisha ‘Pure Namba’, ambayo nayo ni kali (kwa mtazamo wangu ‘Pure Namba’ ni kali zaidi!). Ila sidhani kama imepokelewa na ma-DJ kama ile ya awali. Unalichukuliaje hili? Wewe binafsi unadhani ipi ni nzuri zaidi?

Ulichokisema kuhusu ‘Pure Namba’ ni kweli, ila mwisho wa siku inaishia kwa wasikilizaji. Yaani, hata kama wimbo ukibaniwa, mara nyingi mashabiki wanazipata hizi ngoma kwasababu wanazitafuta wenyewe.

Ila sijawahi kukutana na mtu ambaye hana ngoma ya ‘Pure Namba’…  na nime’shakutana na watu ambao hawana ‘Incredible’!

Kiukweli mi nawakubali sana hawa wana wa Lunduno kiujumla yani One,Stereo na Niki Mbishi na huwa nashindwa kumweka nani wa kwanza na nani wa mwisho sababu stanza wanazotupia ni another level,sio rahisi kuzielewa papo kwa hapo halafu huwa zina-consioutize kinoma,dizaini huwa wanawaza mbali sana wakati wanaandika mistari.Ila ambacho ningepanda kujua ni msanii au wasanii gani ambao Stereo,Niki Mbishi na One wanafuata nyayo zao kiuandishi?

  2. Umesikia hii line “Binti mwenye Kiranga kalamba dume la mtaaa” where Kiranga at? He has some explaining to do. It sounds like as much as binti alivyokuwa na Kiranga, still Kiranga ndiye aliyekuwa dume la mtaa kwa hiyo kwa kuwa na (k)iranga binti akamlamba Kiranga. The double entendre !

    Some Big Pun double decker ish, if you know what I mean. I am a bit curious to find out what our brand of Feminists and Hedonists have to say about lines including words such as “malaya “. Then again I would rather see acts focused on their artistic expression rather than political correctness, it is the essence of real Hip Hop.

    Ukimsikiliza One anavyochana kuhusu “hili janga la jamii”, matatizo ya ndoa, nyumba ndogo vs kubwa, bi mkubwa kushindia karoti wakati bi mdogo anachukua fuba lote, wakati huo huo Duke anakuchombeza na piano pieces za ku reminisce some Faure’s “Pavone”, Mozart’s “Rondo alla Turca” or Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” moves, you know this is talent, no matter the controversial parts. After all, as Orwell said, all art is propaganda, and therefore inherently controversial, so what’s the use of trying to be politically correct?

    Yaani naona it is not fair ku comment extensively kabla ya kuchukua muda kusikiliza vizuri. In short it is fireeeeeeee. Yaani this is the sort of cats I would like to see when I get back home.

    Another thing, this Duke cat, when Nikki says “Ukimtoa Duke maproducer wengi bongo premature cats” (no offense Majani, you are still great) , is this the usual Hip Hop braggadagga talk ? I think cat’s got some bongo Premier in him.

    Another thing I like is the accumulation of artistic talent under one roof, this has the effect of having that “the sum is greater than the addition of the parts” effect.

    Being a piano enthusiast, I feel the Duke production as much as the One/ Nikki flows, anecdotes, similes, metaphors and the sum of it all.

    Ngoja nirudi kuwasikiliza vijana zaidi, labda wanaweza kuni inspire kuandika a fuller review.

    @SN, naweza kupata piano sheets / score za solo ya “Nikki, Stereo, Suma, One – Hisia by Bila Sanaa” . It is all your fault (that I got obsessed) anyway. That stuff make’s me think of Xzibit’s “Paparazzi”. for some reason.

    Sasa, nadhani wewe ulikuwa likizo wakati “Hisia” inatoka… Hilo track “Hisia” linaitwa dude jeusi; not for radio stations! Na tuna deni la kuuchambua — kwa hiyo, kama unataka we endelea tu. Ila review itabidi iwe on a separate post. Bahati “nzuri” itabidi usubiri kidogo kwasababu hapa (VFM) pamekaa kiheshima zaidi. Kwa kifupi, hiki kizazi kipya cha hip hop Bongo kimetushawishi kutengeneza ‘ukumbi’ espeacially for them. Tupe wiki mbili (na huo uchambuzi utaenda kwenye huo ukumbi).

    Kwa sasa hivi nakuomba upunguze munkari (kama unaweza)… Don’t take the shine off One. Hao kina Nikki Mbishi, Stereo, Suma na Duke mwenyewe najua pa kuwapata na napanga kuandaa separate interviews (hata zikiwa videos!)… Hip Hop imerudi Bongo!

    hasemi illmatic, anasema illmatrix ni crew yake hiyo, ila sio ajabu if he is influenced by NAS.

    personally ile line ya Mbishi (UKONGA stand up) ya premature “cats” mi sijaifurahia ila he has a right to express how he feels. Duke in my knowledge has worked with several beatmakers before he started to stand alone, ILA that been said, Duke Tachez “touches” hip hop heads in a whole different way. kama ulivyosema Dj premier style…..

  6. One the Incredible, ndio mgongo mpya wa hip hop. Nadhani utamu wa kiswahili ulipotea, huku wengi wakidhani kuchanga lugha ndio kutaongeza flavor kwenye nyimbo zao. Sipingi uchanganyaji wa lugha, kwani sio kila mtu anajua kukitumia kiswahili vizuri, lakini hiki kizazi kipya kwenye hii fani ya mziki wa kizazi kipya wamedhihirisha kuwa kiswahili ni lugha yenye mvuto.

    Ukimsikiliza One, utaona ni nini ninamaanisha. Napenda kuwa tunarudi kwenye fasihi kama ya akina Shaaban Robert, lakini katika matumizi tofauti ya kiswahili, lakini yenye ladha ile ile kama ya enzi zile.

    All in all, bongo bado inasubiri busara za Hasheem Dogo, manake nadhani hilo pengo mpaka sasa halijazibwa, lakini hawa akina One wanaleta matumaini kwa sisi tulioanza kuamini alichosema Nas kuwa Hip Hop is Dead bongo.

    Pamoja interview imejaribu kupata kujua ni vipi One anaandika mashairi yake, but nadhani kuna umuhimu wa kuingia kwa undani na kuangalia anafanya vipi, what process does he go through, katika jinsi anavyopanga mawazo yake, jinsi anavyochagua style ya ku-deliver, manake najua kila msanii ana formula yake. I know this for sure baada ya kuona Eminem akielezea jinsi yeye anavyofanya.

    But all in all, huyu jamaa ni tumaini jipya..

  8. Patrick… hata mi’ niliposikia ile beat nikatathmini ule msukumo wa mimi pia kuingia kwa booth na kuichana-chana (beat)! Na sijawahi hata kuandika verse… Hapo sasa, sijui ingekuwaje 🙂 Ujue mtu anaweza akaandika article nzima kuhusu beat tu.

    Hiyo hadithi imenichekesha sana, kama Duke alikuwa anacheza na vichwa vyao (kama dingi mnoko hivi!).

    Halafu, “Kiranga” ni maarufu hapa na Jamii Forums. Hapa katuletea makala kibao za siasa, ndio maana Msangi anasema ‘jamaa’ has some explaining to do…

    Kuhusu kurusha vidongo vya hapa na pale, hiyo mbona kawaida tu. Sema Wabongo bado hatujui kupokea maoni ya mtu akitukosoa ndio maana mara nyingi “Hisia” huchukua ukumbi. Yaani mtu akifanya kitu anategemea kila mtu ataafiki na kumsifia tu. Mbona marafiki tu hutaniana na kupigana madongo?

    Huu mjadala wa maneno makali… nitauchokoza siku nyingine. Ila sasa hivi tunamuomba One aendelee hivyo hivyo; kipaji hakizeeki kama kikifanyiwa kazi…

  9. Binafsi ninawakubali hawa vijana tokea niliposikia “New Era Music”.

    One has dope content, so as Nikki Mbishi, Stereo and Suma. Kwahiyo hapa naomba tusiwasahau hao wenzake, kwani ni muhimu kuwaweka kurasa moja. Itakuwa tricky kidogo kwa M Lab kuwa’market wasanii hawa wote ili kila mmoja atoke kivyake.

  11. Huyu jamaa ni noma. Mimi ni mmoja kati ya watu ambao walisaliti Bongo Flava baada ya kuchuja na kujaa ma repa badala ya marapa. One anaweza kufananishwa na Nas au Lupe Fiasco, yani msanii ambaye mashairi yake ni kama kitendawili, unaweza ukasikiliza mwimbo wake leo lakini ikakuchukua wiki kushtukia kile alicholenga kusema. Zaidi ya hapo delivery yako ipo juu pia, nasubiria album yake kwa hamu.
