Google brings G-Tanzania to Dar es Salaam

For the tech enthusiasts amongst us, if you haven’t heard so far, this is big.  Google is making some strides to engage the local tech community in Tanzania by organizing a set of Google (G) Days. The two day event is catered to a wide audience, from software developers to entrepreneurs and technology enthusiasts.

Day 1 seems to be more hands on for developers to understand the nuts and bolts of what the various Google Platforms (Maps, Google+) etc have to offer and how they can be fully leveraged. Day 2 is more geared towards learning how to use advanced Google products (Analytics, Adwords, Adsense) to enable and grow their businesses for a web/mobile based economy.

These introductory days  have a two fold purpose. One, off course is for the public and tech community to understand Google’s offerings better. But, it also lets Google understand what is happening on the ground in Tanzania as far as technology development, what is the capability of developers are their any interesting localized use cases, how far are businesses in their usage of their platforms. This fits into Google’s overall mission of both enabling locals to use technology as well as spurring the growth of more localized online content that they thrive and earn money on.
