NUHA blogging prize 2013

NUHA FoundationOur friends over at the NUHA Foundation have announced their third annual blogging prize competition. The competition encourages people of all ages to think and write about topics in global education.

Getting involved is simple: Choose your topic, write a 500-1500 word argument about it (don’t worry too much about language) and send it in.

There are at least 3 cash prizes up for grabs, based on 3 age categories. The following are the topics for each age category:

Young Writers Prize (born between 1999 and 2003, winner gets £50):

  1. Why do grown-ups read fairy tales?
  2. In the future, will children still use pencils?
  3. “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” by Albert Einstein. Do you agree? Why?

Youth Prize (born between 1995 and 1998, winner gets £100):

  1. Myths, legends and fantasies: why do we read them, why do we watch them?
  2. “To be or not to be…” Is that what school is about?
  3. “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” Attributed to WB Yeats. Do you agree? Why?

Adult Prize (born before 1995, winner gets £150):

  1. If there was one thing you could change to improve education in your country, what would it be and why?
  2. In an era of tight public finances, should students be entitled to subsidised higher education no matter what they choose to study?
  3. “Those who can’t laugh at themselves leave the job to others.” (Anonymous quote.) Discuss.

Depending on the number of submissions, second-place cash prizes will also be awarded.

All entries are due to editor(at)nuhafoundation.org by 6th October 2013, and must be accompanied by a submission form (download Word version here).

Winners will be announced on 9th December 2013. Good luck!

  1. In which language should the essay be written?
The topics listed above for youths,am I supposed to write essay for each or am I supposed to choose one of them.

    1. Hello William! Essays should be in English, although as their website says: “It doesn’t matter whether English is the authors’ first, second, third or fourth language: articles are judged first and foremost on the quality of their argument and the originality of their ideas.”

You should pick one topic. If you are finished with that and would like to submit another, Nuha welcomes you to do so.
