TanSAO: Seeking University and Scholarship Opportunities Worldwide

The Tanzania Student Achievement Organization (TanSAO) is a non-governmental organization whose main focus is “to assist secondary school students in finding, preparing for, and acquiring admission to top worldwide and national universities while at the same time meeting the student and family financial needs as well” (source: TanSAO website).

Working towards becoming a central resource center with various other services for young students and their families, TanSAO dedicates any of its profits towards scholarships for students.

  1. Tansao can yet be another opportunity for students who asprire to study in the world’s most prestigious institutions, for that I congratulate them. But it is not the first time the developing countries have been sending their “best brains” to their developed counterparts. The question arises what diffference have these brains made? I think Tansao need to create a network of students who study abroad (particularly those who have been helped by Tansao) so that they can constantly be sensitised about their role as students who come from a continent that’s very hungry of “best brains.

  2. Daudi is absolutely correct when he says that seeking affordable university opportunities for students is Step One of a two step process. The Second Step is indeed all about encouraging students to return to their Home Country (Tanzania) following their university education. One way we at TanSAO are trying to do this is through “Speaker Saturdays” at the IST Secondary School in Masaki in Dar es Salaam at 3pm every Saturday. It is here that secondary students will not only hear about university opportunites to study abroad but also to hear about career, business, and internship opportunities in their home country from the experiences and wisdom of past students. After supporting students to study abroad at universities for the past 10 years in Tanzania I find it exciting to see how anxious many past students are to share and network with others in what they are doing here in Tanzania, as well as the opportunities they see in the future.
Thank you VijanaFM for creating an avenue to help expand student networking even further through your initiative of this website. Well Done!!!
