5 Personal reflection questions to ask yourself at the end of the year

I love personal growth, and I’m a huge fan of reflections. Sometimes as we live, we don’t pay attention to life, growth and boss moves that we make in our day-to-day lives.

The end of the year allows us to reflect on how far we have come and make some goals on how far we want to go.

For 2021, I thought I could share areas that you could reflect on and some questions that you can ask yourself in order to see how successfully you have lived your year.

There are 5 areas that you can reflect on, and these are:

1. Finances

Here you could reflect on your relationship with money, how has it been this year? Have you saved like you wanted to? Have you invested your money, bought what you wanted and etc. There is a saying that says ‘a lot can happen in a year’, when you look back on this year what does that look like for you financially? Do you think you have areas that need growth when it comes to your relationship with money, do you think you have some maybe scarcity mindset, is there some financial hurdle or mindset that you did overcome, how does your year look like financially?

Questions that can assist you in your reflection include:

  • How have you increased your financial income this year and how has that change your spending habit?
  • How have your spending habit affect you financially?
  • What financial lessons have you learned this year?
  • What financial mistakes did you make this year and what did they teach you?
  • What are the best money decisions that you have made this year?

2. Personal Affairs

In this category, you could reflect on how much you feel like you have grown personally. Like are there addictions you have battled? Behaviors you have changed, do you like yourself more now? Do you enjoy your own company? Do you enjoy your hobbies? What skills could you learn?

Questions that can assist you in your reflection include:

  • Have I been good at interpersonal skills like communicating?
  • What areas have I seen much personal growth in?
  • What have I learned about myself this year?
  • What hobby did I enjoy this year that I can do more of next year?
  • Have I felt like I have lived this year to the fullest?

3. Relationships

Here you could reflect on personal relationships, whether romantic or platonic. Do you feel like you gave your all? Were they healthy for you? Do you feel fulfilled with your friendships? Do you feel like they push you to grow? Etc.

Questions that can assist you in your reflection include:

  • Do you feel like your friendship is pushing you to grow?
  • Do you feel like you give your all to your friends?
  • What lessons did you learn from your friendships?
  • Do you feel like your friends contribute to a fulfilling life for you?
  • What would you change when it comes to how you relate to your friends?

4. Career and/or Business

Here you could reflect on your career moves, d you feel like you are fulfilled career wise? Is there something that you would change? Do you need to learn more skills for advancement and what skills and etc

  • What’s something that I need to work on that I had difficult with in 2021?
  • What can I be good at?
  • Do I feel fulfilled with the work I do?
  • What can I do more of to feel more fulfilled?
  • Did I take better care of myself while working? (Have a better grip of both, personal and career life)

5. Health

Here you reflect on your health, do you feel like you have been looking after yourself mentally, emotionally and physically?

Questions that can assist you in your reflection include:

  • How do I feel about myself?
  • How have I been taking care of myself in all areas this year?
  • What can I do more of in 2022 in order to take of myself?
  • What do I feel right now and how can I feel better?
  • What strategies do I need to put and follow for me to be in my best mental, emotional and physical state?

I hope these questions will help you see how successful this year has been for you and how you can make your 2022 better.

Remember to be kind to yourself! Many people tend to feel that ‘end of the year depression’ where you feel like you wasted the last 365 days. I am here to remind you that you haven’t, you have achieved something no matter how small you think it is, and just being here still fighting to be better is something. So be kind to yourself.

Happy New Year in advance.
