A young Tanzanian director’s take on Hiari Orphanage

Amil Shivji is an aspiring filmaker from Tanzania. Currently pursuing his undergraduate studies in film at York University in Toronto, Canada, Amil’s work tries to engage social consciousness in a way that is attractive to youth, especially in his native Dar-es-Salaam.

    we are currently visiting the hiari orphanage. we started last year august as part of our activities for ib diploma.
    its a nice production that you have made, great job.
    i would like to hear from you about the orphanage and if you have any ideas on what should be done.

    Great to hear that the connection between Mzizima and Hiari is still going strong. Please give my regards to Bibi and all the kids. Every time I went there the most important aspect was the respect and commitment given towards the kids. I think it’s more than just giving food or clothes or toys. Spending time with them, listening to their stories and sharing your own was what really built a relationship. Good Luck with school!
