5 sites to find international remote jobs as an African

We all know unemployment is an issue, dare I say globally. So it’s important to be flexible and creative when it comes to the ways we seek jobs or the jobs we want to do. It is important to let go of the ideas we once had of how our lives would turn out after graduation and play with the cards we have been given.

In this day and age of social media and globalization, you can look for jobs in the far lands especially if you see that the market in your country is hard to tap into. Of course I know that not all jobs can be done remotely or even be applicable or in the market in some other countries so this post doesn’t apply to everyone. But to those for whom it does apply, here are 5 sites that will help you get a remote job from anywhere in the world:

Facebook

By joining groups that are related to what you do, you get to connect with people who have the same interest as you. Facebook has many groups that share job opportunities, try searching for those groups and ask to join. Even Twitter – I know someone who got a job on Twitter! Try searching using a hashtag that is related to what you do.

I always encourage people to utilize social media for personal development. Social media is a tool that will be useful to you depending on how you are using it. You may meet clients or people who can hire you there, or join groups that share a job that you will end up getting, so try focusing a month on social media job hunting.

Remote Job Portals

Websites such as We Work Remotely, Working Nomads, Remote Co and Idealist post global job opportunities that are remote. Don’t let fear make you sabotage you, a lot of people just want someone who knows what they are doing, so let go of your fear and low self esteem and apply for a job from anywhere in the world. You can search on this sites for the job that you are interested in, majority are American and European, if you would love local jobs, you can set a Google notification so that you get updates bout local jobs via email as soon as they are posted.

Indeed

The thing that I love about Indeed is that you can set it to notify you about the jobs that you are looking for and you will be getting daily notifications of the new openings.

Now you should know that there are a lot of scammers on Indeed, so be careful, if they ask you to contact them on Telegram or you don’t have a good feelings about a job offer, don’t go for it. But otherwise check out Indeed Worldwide and choose a country that you would love a job from and apply, always remember to search for ones that are remote jobs.

Upwork

I love Upwork because of the diversity of jobs and how some don’t even require experience. If you are looking for a remote work, there are many to choose from on Upwork, some are long term projects and some just one time. You work on a freelance basis for a job that you get to choose. Of course every platform has it’s pros and cons, but it’s worth trying it out.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is where most international companies post their open positions. And with Covid-19 a lot of companies have adopted the remote work style, so it maybe worth it to check it out. I also know people (freelancers) who get clients on LinkedIn, so it’s good to market yourself well on the platform and you never know where your next client/ employer will come from.
